[edit] Editing Tools

Do you know where I could get a list of the coding/tools available on this wiki? I haven't been able to find one. Sacrilege 04:24, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tortage

Absolutely, I'll get right on it and fix it up a bit. Sacrilege 04:05, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

For deleting that spam on my talk-page :) Sacrilege 04:34, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Also thanks for deleting [The Black Company Initial] page; I was using it as a reference page as I learned the ins and outs of this wiki's coding language. Let me know if you need some work done, I'm always free. Sacrilege 03:40, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, shall do. As to suggestions, none yet, I've just been around cleaning up pages and organizing. It's taking me a while to learn all the new codes on this site; they are a little different from what I'm used to. I'll be around though, learning/cleaning :) Sacrilege 03:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hi...

Just thought i might say... hi!

Awesome work here!

[edit] Could you please add Tarantia to the Screenshots template?

Sup Daworm :)

Just finished the Tarantia screenshots page to start working on the Tarantia page, but I realise I can't edit the {{Screenshots}} thing to include a Tarantia link there, so is there some way that I can that I'm missing, or is it an admin only thing? If so, do ya reckon you could take care of it?

Cheers

- Xai

I would but it appears you have been able to figure it out. =) Just for the record, there shouldn't be any pages that are locked from editing. The odd page here and there may eventually be locked for admin only edit, but that would be to prevent any accidentally changes that can damage a lot of other pages.

[edit] Log onto Gmail

Hey, just wanna get in touch with you ASAP about the Spells Portal - if you're happy with what I've done so far. So get onto Gmail :)

[edit] Images

Hi Daworm. Image sharing now works across the aoc wikis. See de:Benutzer:Angela for an example. All versions can now use images directly from the English version if they want to. If there is a local version with the same filename, the wiki will use that instead. Angela@Wikia (talk) 06:28, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh, thank you Angela. Just perfect!

[edit] RSS Feeds - Can we make our own?

There is a feed of that page's history here. Another option is to use a Wikia blog where you can post content from the wiki straight to a blog like the gaming one. However, the blogs are based on Hubs rather than on individual wikis, so it wouldn't be only for the AoC wiki. Angela@Wikia (talk) 11:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Posts from this wiki will appear here. Let me know if there's a problem getting a feed for this category since the redirects to feedburner might need to be fixed. You can add new posts by replacing the content and title of MediaWiki:Blog snippet. Angela@Wikia (talk) 15:48, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
When you edit Mediawiki:Blog snippet, it will add a new post to the blog. You can't edit a blog post via the wiki once it's up there (I can edit it via wordpress if necessary). Angela@Wikia (talk) 03:59, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
If you subscribe to http://feeds.feedburner.com/AoCWikiaBlog you'll see just the posts made on this wiki. Angela@Wikia (talk) 04:34, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I've created an image which displays the latest posts from AoC that you can use on the wiki. See my user page for an example. The background can be changed by editing this image. Angela@Wikia (talk) 04:59, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Bit updated welcome template.. What do you think?

[edit] Featured gaming wikia

Just letting you know that AoC is gonna be the first Featured gaming Wikia. The actual featuring will happen with the next major revision of the hub (which is soon). You can look at the preview here (I'm gonna share it in the IRC chat tomorrow to get more feedback for some last tweaks). Thanks again for nomination (and feel free to edit the blurb, or get others on the AoC wiki to edit the blurb). -PanSola 04:52, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for your sugestion!

I'll add to my Wiki the link to the other Lenguages ^_^

[edit] Game Terms

The page may not be needed in your opnion, and for me it is not needed, but that is because I've palyed nearly every western MMO on the market since EQI. I know what damage or a buff is. someone that is totally new to the Genre or the termanoloigy may be confused. For those peeople a glossary or index of terms would be useful. Having an article in place for each individual term is a bit excessive, the only real benefit I can see would be how easy it would be to find the article with the search function. People will look for "damage" or "debuff" if they are unfamiler with the term and the article will pop up, they may not look for "glossary of terms" or "MMO terms." Just my 2 cents.

[edit] Age of Conan Wiki on Gamespot

Wikia has partnered with Gamespot to let them link to our some of Wikia's game wikis. This is a great way to promote our wikis to Gamespot's readers and recruit new readers and editors. We launched four of them in November (Halo, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, and Tabula Rasa) and we are planning to add a bunch more in February, including Age of Conan Wiki. They are interested in adding a Age of Conan Wiki tab to their Gamespot Age of Conan Wiki gamepage. This tab would look identical to the Halopedia Tab. The content (Featured articles, Recent Changes, Popular Articles) is generated via a content feed that Wikia sets up.

For this to work for Age of Conan Wiki, I would need your help setting up a Featured Content templates similar to how Mass Effect does it. This allows the Wikia feed to send Gamespot featured content snippets and images. There are instructions for how to do this on w:c:inside:Featured Article System. Please let me know if you can help out getting this set up? Kirkburn (talk) 05:47, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hi!

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself because I'm going to be hanging out here quite a bit. My name is Kyle, and I'm a member of the Wikia Gaming team. More importantly, however, I plan on getting in to Age of Conan, and the information you guys have here has really helped me get ready for the impending release.

I look forward to contributing more information myself. :)

[edit] CreatePage questions

Hi Daworm!

Here are the answers your two CreatePage questions:

Q: Is there a way to have it load the CreatePage and have a certain tab selected by default?

A: Yes there is! Somehow we forgot to mention that feature in the guide. :P Just use a URL parameter like this:
 http://aoc.wikia.com/index.php?title=Special:CreatePage&createplates=Quest

Q: How do we have it create the page into a Namespace?

A: Simple, just type the title in, as usual. :)

Hope that helps.

Best regards, TOR@Wikia 12:44, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Heh... Kirkburn just pointed out to me that the answer to the second question is probably not what you asked for. You wanted to have a predefined Namespace built into the createplate, so that if a user selects "Guild" all the articles will end up in the Guild: namespace, right?
If that's the case we don't have that functionality yet, but will definitely consider it for the next release.
Thanks for the idea. :) TOR@Wikia 14:20, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Introduction

Hi Daworm! I'm sure Kyle warned you I would be stopping by to let you know the success of your wiki is extremely important to us, and we are here to help out in any way! I’m the marketing manager here at Wikia Gaming, and over the next few weeks, I will be concentrating on developing relationships with Funcom. The final goal will be for us to run events for the community, and have some exclusive contests on the wiki. I would love to discuss options, and brainstorm some ideas for events on the wiki with you. TTYL -- Doug (talk) 22:30, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Updates ...

Hey Daworm,

I just wanted to update you on a few of the things that we talked about. First of all, I checked on the images in the GameFAQs featured articles, and they don't seem to be appearing on any wikis, so we're looking in to it. We're still in the process of getting the wiki links set up on gamespot.com.

Second, the Monobook theme that you guys have is awesome and I think you guys should just go ahead and port that to Monaco. Once you have the style sheet set up like you want it, I should be able to get you some help creating a new logo and header image for the wiki since you mentioned that those were a bit time consuming before.

Third, do you have any specific ideas for the homepage? I guess to some degree that design will depend on how you skin Monaco, but I have some ideas and I'll be happy to help you with that. I'd just like to hear your thoughts first.

Finally, have you had a chance to check out the new Halopedia? We recently rolled out a bunch of new features like user profiles, blogs, collaborative video editing, quizzes, and more. If you haven't already, check it out and let me know what you think about those features.

--KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:27, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

The test site looks like a great start. I really like that banner image ... it goes with the logo and the background really well. The layout of the homepage seems like it is really coming along too I like that you are featuring images and using news to keep the homepage fresh (similar to what you are already doing here). I would strongly suggest that you feature both of these items prominently because they make the homepage much more interesting and compelling than just a collection of links. I'll start playing around with a homepage mockup and we'll see what we can come up with.
Also, have you considered what kinds of policies you want to enforce on the wiki? The naming policy is a great start, but once the NDA is lifted (and the game eventually released as well), I think that we are going to get a lot of edits over a relatively short period of time, so it's probably best to go ahead and flesh those policies out. If you don't have any suggestions, I can make some proposals if you would like to start things off.
Just let me know! By the way, if you want, you can just continue this discussion on your talk page rather than splitting between ours. It might make things easier to follow, and I'm watching this page anyway.
--KyleH@Wikia (talk) 21:53, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that's more than fine. Been talking to Zido about the colour scheme though and he's of a mind to change it from the brownish. As it is the brick theme out of the box is just fantastic, much easier to find colours that work well with it throughout the site :) As I said, I'm not the guru on CSS and colouring schemes, so if you have someone that can throw up a fantastic looking Monaco skin on there :) More than happy to see it !
We'll see what we can come up with some naming policies over the next week. We at least have the manual of style that still needs to be tweaked to be more AoCWiki related I think though. :)
--Daworm 22:11, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I think that Brick really looks awesome and matches your logo and the feel of the game in general really well. Do you like having a white background in the content areas, or would you prefer it to be darker? I know that the old Monobook theme is dark, but you've been using a lighter background more lately. By the way, as I mentioned before, be sure to take a look at the cool new stuff on the Halo wiki and let me know what you think. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 20:07, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
/me Jumps into the discussion like an unwanted lovechild * As for the white in the content, I like it. I've been using Quartz Slate and Brick for a while. If people really want a darker background, the gaming theme is avalible (although I'd like to see more darkish themes avalible as standard, since a lot of people tend to like them). As for the new stuff at Halopedia, I'm kind of surprised that anybody would think that Blogs would fit well into wikis. I realise that Wikia must be attracted to the success of Facebook, but this is supposed to be a site to provide information on a certain topic, not to share your holiday photos and decide which of your friends are the most attractive. Imo, the menu on Halopedia just looks waay to crowded now.. Focus should be on the content, and the extra features can be avalible if you're looking for them, it's not important enough to be up there with stuff like "game play". Zido [Talk] [Contribs] 13:53, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
haha, don't feel that way ... I'm looking for everyone's opinion, so feel free to chime in any time. Personally, I prefer a white or otherwise light background as well, especially for MMOs. I think that Monaco Brick or some variation of it is kind of a nice compromise. I think that we are going to be re-working Monaco Gaming some in the near future to make it a little bit more friendly to use, so that will probably be a more viable option soon.
I agree with you that the Halo menus and homepage really feels cluttered at times. One thing to note is that the design is modular, so for future rollouts, each wiki will be able to decide what features (if any) it wants rather than getting them all at once. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 15:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Which is good. Like (I think) I said, I would like the features to be there, just not everything on the menu.. If people would like to blog here that's good, but I don't think blogs are of such an importance that they should be on the main menu. A page that lists blogs, latest blogposts etc etc would be nice, and would fit nicely under "Community" on the main page, but the main focus when navigating the page should be on finding content about Age of Conan. Zido [Talk] [Contribs] 00:14, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Personally I say we get the new style setup to our liking (what, at most a header image?) and then try get some community discussion about the change and how they can view it from the forums. Working on a guildy for a header image (he's got a few image requests ahead of my request) so HOPEFULLY something this week! :)
But can we customise the default view of widgets on the side there at all? I wouldn't mind having the Shout Box up by default... Daworm 02:34, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AoC polls

Hello! I'm an admin on the Girl Genius Wiki and I've been looking around for help on how to do polls within a template for use on the main page, similar to the setup you have here. I can't seem to find what I need. Are there any help files you could recommend? (Edit: I realized what I was not understanding was the DPL tag. Google ftw.) --mnenyver (talk) Mar 10 2008

Thanks for your reply and the links. I think I'm figuring this out now. Peeking at this site has helped quite a bit. (Kinda interested to see where AoC is going too. It sounds different!) --mnenyver 02:46, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AOC Contest

Daworm! I had this vision for a great contest on the AOC wiki, and wanted to bug you about it from a couple of angles, 1) logistics and 2) proof of concept. So here is the idea "The god Mitra has gone missing, and the prayers of Hyboria go unanswered! Scattered throughout the AoC wiki are clues to Mitra’s whereabouts, users will follow a click trail through pages full of clues that need to be assembled to find Mitra’s final location. Once the final link has been activated, gamers will enter in their answers and submit an email to an account created for contests and will be entered to win some AOC swag and beta keys before the game releases." I would like to set this up for mid April. So let's talk about how we can make this rock! Although most discussions should take place on the wiki, I think we should use email for this, to "keep it secret...keep it safe". Drop me a line at doug@wikia.com when you get a chance. ;0p -- Doug@Wikia (talk) 23:55, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey Daworm

Hey,

I've edited wiki pages before...but not major updates or anything...i would love to learn more. As for graphics and stuff...I used to have my own website ( http://www.the-gauntlet.net )...its act as my server now...but I do know a thing or about about website management and things of that nature.

[edit] Profile tools

Hullo, I've got some info about the upcoming profile tools for you :)

Our current plan is to roll out the Profile tools - that is, Profiles, Avatars, Awards, Gifts, Friends and Userboxes - first, along with a tool called Site Scout. (There are more, but they will not be available until later.)

In order to organise this we need for users and especially admins to take a look at all the help pages linked above, read up about it and be prepared for the changes. There will be a few things to set up - links to the help pages, announcements and some backend stuff. Not too big, but better to be in place in plenty of time.

Hope this brightens your day! Kirkburn (talk) 13:31, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Conan lore search

I made a search utility that looks through all of R. E. Howard's works on Conan for a specific string. Take a look; should be really useful for fact-checking. -Illnab1024 16:15, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Feats test

I likely could have it working on the wiki... of course I myself am not in the AoC beta, so I have no real idea what the feats UI looks like. Those graphics were solely recreated from screenshots I found. -Illnab1024 20:36, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: AVT

It didn't work on monobook for me, actually. I might get it running later on, specifically when vandalism has potential of being a real problem. (8 days from now, maybe?) But to answer your question, it would work on any stylesheet if you set it up like that. -Illnab1024 03:40, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
