A thrown weapon is a weapon that your character can throw. Knives and even some spears can be thrown from a distance, but nowhere near as far away as bows. It generally causes much less damage than a bow or crossbow.
It can be used by the Ranger, Priest of Mitra, Tempest of Set, Bear Shaman, Conqueror, Dark Templar, Guardian, Barbarian, Herald of Xotli, Demonologist, Necromancer.
