New Management[]

Ardwulf (Praetorius) is now the Administrator of the Aoc Wiki! I welcome any sugestions or comments. If anyone wants to be a member of the new admin team, let me know. Ardwulf/Praetorius 04:51, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

Geez, this talk thing just confuses the heck out of me. I'd like in on that admin action if possible. Nice updates! Pinstripesc 06:04, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
Cool, consider yourself on the waiting list for that; right now Amakar and SalmonSeller have first dibs; both have put in tremendous efforts here, so I'm waiting to hear back from them. Meanwhile, keep helping out. One of the things I am reviewing is user rights and protected pages; editing those, actually deleting pages on the delete list, and editing the site layout is about all admins can do that regular registered users can't. Ardwulf/Praetorius 10:04, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
Good stuff. My expertise comes more in visuals than anything else, and perhaps navigational tips, as I'm apparently very bad at finding my way around here. Pinstripesc 10:16, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
I don't mind being an admin, helping out when I can. Amakar 12:41, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

Don't know where to put this, but could the dropdown menus at the top be updated to be more broad categories? Im talking about the 'dungeons', 'bestiary', and 'quests' tabs at the top. Seems to be random selections from these groups atm. Sargeist 17:08, May 26, 2011 (UTC)
OK, I'll take a look at that. Can I get suggestions as to what should go up there? Ardwulf/Praetorius 15:19, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
Classes, Dungeons, PvP, etc? Pinstripesc 22:34, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
Yep, the admin thing is fine. Also, the site is looking cracking - lovin the new look! SalmonSeller 21:56, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
OK, made you an admin. I'm looking at the menu but I'm kind of at a loss as to how to organize it. Admins should be able to do so if you've any ideas; you can get to that page HERE. Ardwulf/Praetorius 05:26, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
Your referring to the 'drop down' animated menu's at the top? Yes, I was looking at those earlier. Clicking on the 'edit this menu' option goes to the page you linked. I can't figure out how that page works though - yet. A small test change seemed to have no effect on the menu up top. There must be some way on that page of determining which menu links show.
As for the items in the menus, those seem to be determined by what is on each of the catergory pages. If you click on any of the menu headers (i.e. click on Bestiary, Quests, Dungeons) it goes to a catergory page - many of the ones 'featured' appear in the menu dropdown (but oddly, not all). Must be able to alter it, so I'll keep tinkering. SalmonSeller 20:38, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and I have added a link to the Wikia Forums on the Help Page - in almost every case some one else has had the same problem I have had. It's been very handy. As regards the forum menu issue, I found this. Something to do with Javascript. SalmonSeller 20:46, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Might want to have a look at this page. The way this wiki's navigation page is set up seems to determine it's menu layout up top. The JS and CSS are more to with how it looks / behaves. SalmonSeller 21:05, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
Well, I have figured out how the menu thing works - I have in fact made some changes as a proof of concept (so to speak) - see the menu at the top of the screen. I have included a bunch of the main pages, however these can of course be altered as needed. The main question now is what do we want as the Main Headers / Titles of these menus, and what pages links do we want to put in the sub-menus that pop up? We should try and plan a menu layout.
Also, currently it is limited to 4 menus. However, as noted on the wiki forums there is a work around for this, which I have implemented. It does not currently seem to work however, so I have left a message with the chap who discovered the fix and hopefully we can have additional menu's added in the near future. It might be something to do with the layout of the wiki - it may need tweaking. Not sure yet. It does work however, as he, and several other wiki's, have menu's of greater than 4 - see here. (I also kept a copy of the old layout - just in case).SalmonSeller 22:16, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
All sorted now. As Timeshifter from the Weedwiki (that's classic LOL) noted, it seems it will only generate a new menu link if a page exists for it. So if we want a new menu title we'll need a page for it, which is no real hassle. No need to mess with the background coding for this issue then. SalmonSeller 23:45, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
Re-organized the menu a bit. A few new catergories - I tried to put links that would be useful, in a broad sense. Consolidated some pages - mostly to do with crafting / harvesting and the Inro to AoC pages. Quite a bit out of date I suspect - will need updating.SalmonSeller 03:24, June 3, 2011 (UTC)

Front Page Layout[]

Any ideas for the site layout? As you can all see, updating it a bit was the first thing I did. We probably need to keep up work on that, though - I'd like the gateway page to be as pretty and useful as it can possibly be. Offhand, we need a navigation section in the right column and a simple link to the FAQ (which itself needs to be updated.) A news section would also be welcome, especially right now. Ardwulf/Praetorius 10:07, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

Looks great so far. Amakar 12:42, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
Maybe we should replace the graphic on the middle with some infoboxes with basic information, this wiki is a good example. The most important thing is to make it easy for new players to find information. I'm gonna work on updating the FAQ box tomorrow. Enervate 22:42, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
I've been looking at the GW wiki of late as well; it's a nice, clean design. I king of like the idea of having something akin to its "Basic Game Information" box - this is what I think we ought to replace the current FAQ in the right column with. I don't like their top piece being a featured article since this is of dubious use to anyone in particular and has to be (as far as I know) managed by hand. Ardwulf/Praetorius 03:31, May 26, 2011 (UTC)
The boxed sections are very clean (GW wiki). It's not the most visually appealing thing, but the layout is nicely organized into important sections. I think we could stand to move the Twitter further down our frontpage, as it's not really providing specific information about anything. Pinstripesc 04:19, May 26, 2011 (UTC) Also, again this slideshow box could make for a cool implementation, it has a very "up to date" feel about it -- http://hunted.wikia.com/wiki/Hunted_Wiki Pinstripesc 04:21, May 26, 2011 (UTC)
I updated the FAQ thingy, hope I didn't miss anything. Enervate 15:12, May 26, 2011 (UTC)
Also, I'm going through the PoM spells to upgrade them but I can't go ingame atm to get info. Is there some place where we can communicate about stuff like this and communicate about which parts of the wiki to focus on? Enervate 16:26, May 26, 2011 (UTC)
I updated the Priest of Mitra page itself about a week ago. Do you tihnk it is a good format for updating other class's main pages? Sargeist 17:04, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

Question[]

Is this wiki run by developers of age of Conan?

Also what needs to be done on it and what is the estimated percentage of uptodate?

Re-adding the gaming footer[]

Hello, Wikians! I am AStranger195. As you can (or cannot) see, Wikia Staff member Raylan removed the official Wikia Gaming Footer on all main pages transcluding it. Therefore, the Community Central users created a new community-maintained footer for everyone! If you like, you can add it by typing {{w:Community gaming footer}} for the full template or {{w:Community gaming footer/list}} if you only want the list.

Note: This is a message which will be manually copy-pasted on main pages of wikias listed on w:Template:Wikia Gaming Footer/List of Wikis. Feel free to remove this message.

Thanks!
