2 Gigs should be considered minimum specs on Vista, and 3-4 Gigs will ensure a much smooother loading of all areas, each time a player moves from a zone, the amount of data in the ram climbs about 200-400 MB, sometimes to be de-cached, other times the data just sits in the memory. Computers relying heavily on virtual memory or marginal "officially recommended" specs should upgrade RAM.
[edit] Testing your PC
[edit] The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - PC Test
- This is generally touted as the "If you can run this, you can run Age of Conan" test.
Note: This does not mean that it will run with maximum settings for Age of Conan, it's simply that if you can play Oblivion you may be able to play Age of Conan. Some users have found to their disappointment that computers which have successfully run oblivion in the past have been unable to run Age of Conan.
[edit] System Requirements Lab
CanYouRunIt.com allows users to quickly determine if their computer can run programs such as the latest games or Windows Vista. Within moments, the user is given a comprehensive report that indicates if additional memory, an advanced video card, driver updates, etc are required to get full use of the desired program. Age of Conan is included in their application list.
[edit] Operating System
Age of Conan, at this stage is accessible on Windows XP, and Windows Vista at the same time. While Age of Conan is a Premier DirectX 10 Game, it was originally developed for DX9, and only recently (IE: 2007) did they start to convert and develop the game for DX10 As Well As DX9. IE: Windows Vista and Windows XP.
- It is not known if it will run on Windows 2000, or other flavors of Operating Systems, but it should work (eventually) on Linux systems with the use of an Emulator.
- It has been successfully run in Windows 7 both in DX9 and DX10 mode (with the latest nVidia driver).
- No known details are available at this stage regarding a Mac version.
[edit] DirectX 10
As a footnote inside the proud announcement that Age of Conan Collector’s Edition Completely Sold Out, Funcom "regrets to inform gamers that the DirectX 10 version of the game will not ship with the initial launch." Funcom intend to include more DX10 functionality in the extended development time of that client and plans to premiere it at the German Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, August 20 – 24, 2008.
Some screenshots and videos available for a more visual aspect to what the game looks like.
