Sandstone is a Tier 1 Stonecutting resource. A character needs be of level 20, minimum, in order to cut sandstone.
Sandstone outcroppings also have a chance of producing [Clear Quartz], [Fine Quartz Dust], and [Powdered Desert Glass] when cut.
Sandstone's primary use is in Architecture, but it is also used in small amounts in Armorsmithing.
