The growing werewolf population in the Fields of the Dead is caused by the Curse of Lycanthropy.
The story began with a sorcerer wielding Hyperborean magic and an amulet that gave him the strength of the wolf. The sorcerer journeyed to Cimmeria and enslaved many, until he was killed by a chieftain. His amulet was taken by the Chieftain, but soon after, the amulet transformed the chieftain into a wolf-like beast.
The clansmen killed him, and he was buried together with the foul amulet, but many were biten in the fight.
They would be doomed to suffer the same fate as the chieftain had it not been for the Shaman of the Gaud who cured them of this curse.
"blood of nights' hunters taken through pain, Amulet of lycophos, stolen in vain. The skin of cold rocks, warmed by sun's breath. Head of a predator king, eyeless in death. The touch of blue silver, vital and pure. The banishing complete, the corruption is cured."
