..snip..
We ended our tour with a brief visit to an extremely high-level dungeon known as "Black Ring Citadel," a level-80 dungeon (80 will be the highest character level you can attain at the game's launch) intended for the game's full "raid" contingent of up to 24 characters. The dungeon itself seemed to be an elegant temple under construction, alternating between rooms floored with red marble and pillars adorned with golden serpents, on the more developed side, and stony caves being carved out by slave crews. Apparently, the dungeon will be the base of a mad wizard who has discovered the secret of animating stone gargoyles and bending the beasts to his will, so players will be attacked by smaller stony creatures before confronting the sorcerer himself. The sorcerer, when defeated, actually tumbles out of his robes and becomes a gigantic, stony monstrosity. After this form of the wizard was ultimately destroyed, our party delved further into the dungeon to a gigantic hall in which an enormous gargoyle creature much larger than the full screen's size stood in wait for us, and summoned additional gargoyles and apprentice wizards while it swiped at our party with its huge claws.
[edit] BRC in more detail
Only occultists high in the mazes of the hideous Black Ring possessed the power of the black hand that dealt death by its touch. Robert E. Howard – The Hour of the Dragon
The infamous home of the Black Ring is buried deep beneath an ominous mountain that looms behind Kheshatta, city of magicians. This coven of the darkest sorcerers in all Stygia is led by the all-powerful Thoth-Amon, earth’s mightiest practitioner of black magic. Within its torch lit halls foul sorcerers perform hellish conjurations, vile experiments and consort with fiends from the abyss.
Its pillared halls, adorned with snake idols and the architecture of Set, are marvelous to behold though seeing them leaves one with an inevitable chill. How many screams have echoed through these passages? How much hot blood has been spilled upon its altars? What abominations wander the passageways and dungeons?
Dark clouds gather over Kheshatta and the sorcerers of the Black Ring recklessly attempt even greater violations of natural law. The power of dark magic is growing and the Black Ring seeks to exploit it, disregarding the cost and danger of such wild experiments. Slowly they have withdrawn into their stronghold, abandoning the city, Stygia and the outside world.
Villainous members of the Black Ring such as Sabazios the Insane and Excorant the Golem Master dwell defended by companies of elite Stygian guards and apprentices of the dark arts. Horrors such as Yarekma the Soul Eater or other unnamed entities also lurk within.
Any assault would be doomed but if the fate of Hyboria is in the balance then the brave, foolhardy and desperate might attempt such an epic conquest; to fight the monstrous titans and power maddened necromancers within.
[edit] Boss Encounters
[edit] Excorant the Golem Master
A small-mini boss, a sorcerer who does little more than seemingly beat you up, and maybe spawn the odd Gargoyle.
Who, after dying will give the players a short pause before a massive Stone Gargoyle will appear in his place from the corpse.
The Gargoyle appears to have the standard Melee, plus some Fire abilities during this fight.
[edit] Yarekma the Soul Eater
- This one, is a large perhaps massive Demon.
- Accessible after killing Excorant.
[edit] Known Attacks
- Enrages on a 30 second timer causing him to swell in size and do massive one-shot damage as well as move slightly faster.
- Performs random conal AOE knockback + damage attack infront of him.
- DOTs the second highest target on his aggro list.
- After he Enrages, he switches aggro to the second highest on his list and attempts to one-shot them, chasing them around until they are dead or he de-enrages. At this time he also resets his aggro tables with the exception of the prior second highest aggro. This behavior is also exhibited if someone pulls aggro off the main tank.
