AoCWiki:IRC
From AoCWiki
The forum is a great place to ask questions and chat with other contributors, but if you have an urgent question or just want a more "live" chat, IRC might be a better option.
AoCWiki has therefore created an IRC channel on QuakeNet for you to discuss the Wiki or any other aspect of Age of Conan you might be interessted in. Choose a server from the list and join #AoCWiki !

[edit] Channel rules
- Be civil to each other - no harassment will be allowed in the channel
- Do not spam the channel - IRC is not suited to give large amounts of text, if you need to share a large amount of text use a service such as Pastey.
- These rules are still under construction - the channel is still young so more rules might be developed if problems arise
[edit] Channel Commands
The IRC server that QuakeNet uses doesn't use the conventional Nickserv, or NS, or relative commands. Instead they use their own type of commands and bot. Channel Commands, or User Commands are listed here.
It's also good to note that you cannot register your nick, and anyone can impersonate you over the IRC server if they want to, the overall security of the IRC server is lacking as well.
You can register your nick, however anyone can use it without authing to quakenet. If someone is using your nick though it is quite simple to auto to quakenet and have them kicked (so long as they haven't discovered your password and changed it) but then you have that same security issue with passwords as you do anywhere else.
[edit] Naming
- Please try to ensure your nick in the channel is appropriate and non-offensive. Also, if you are idle feel free to /nick <nick>_ or /nick <nick>|afk / work / etc.
This just helps those passing through know your not actually around at the time.
[edit] Software
If you need some IRC software, there are a few out there. For Firefox users, you can get ChatZilla, a small lightweight IRC plugin for Firefox.
Or if you prefer something a little more robust, have a look at.
[edit] Mibbit: Web Based : Easy Mode
Last but not least, for those who don't know anything about getting and configuring mIRC. Open this link in a new window/tab to connect to IRC through mibbit's web-based IRC Client, all you need to do is to put in a name and press Connect!
- Please note, that at times you may not be able to connect through mibbit's client, due to Quakenet paranoia. If that happens, you will need to find an alternative connection method and try again later.
