[edit] Lore
The game is set in the world of Hyboria, created by author Robert E. Howard more than 70 years ago. The world has since been further developed through many comics. Also, movies have been made based on the Conan stories.
Hyboria is the world where Conan lives. The game is set after the events of The Hour of the Dragon, when Conan is king of Aquilonia.
Developers have tried to keep as close to the lore as possible while designing the game, making the game reflect the dark and sinister world that Hyboria is. The game is primarily based on the lore created by Howard himself, not the comics created afterwards. However, some differences will occour, i.e. the game will have more female warriors than in Howard's stories.
[edit] Cities
Age of Conan gives players a lot of control over their environment, giving guilds the ability to create their own cities.
[edit] Combat system
One of the features that is said to make Age of Conan a revolutionary MMO is the combat system. While most current MMOs have a standard auto-attack system with some special moves to do more damage, Age of Conan is designed to give the player a feeling of being in combat himself. This means that the player will have to be more actively involved while fighting, making decisions for every attack. You will be able to do melee-, ranged-, mounted- and magic combat, and for each of these disiplines you have different combos that will increase the damage done. The combo system for magic is called spellweaving.
[edit] Characters
[edit] Character customisation
In Age of Conan you're able to customize your character's appearance completely, enabling you to create a completely unique character. You can change the size of the character's nose, chest width etc on a sliding scale, so that chances are you'll never see another character that looks exactly like your own.
[edit] Class system
The class system in Age of Conan is twofold, with both archetypes and classes. Each class has three feat trees: two specific to the class and one shared with all members of the archetype.
